Why did he race in F1 rather than play football? Do you feel lucky that he choose to race cars rather than football?
I guess he knew that he could make a lot more money in F1 than football.
Many German internationals think that Schumacher could have played football professionally – not to international level, but certainly in the Bundesliga. It’s quite rare, even in these specialised times, to find a top sportsman who cannot play at least one other sport to a level which is beyond the average person. Just look at the number of cricketers, footballers and F1 drivers who play golf to a high standard (Nick Heidfeld being a good example of a golfing F1 driver). Also look at the number of players who have a “winter” and a “summer” sport… less than there used to be, but they still exist.
Given the choice between seeing Schumi the solid professional footballer and Schumi the all-time great F1 driver, then I’m glad he chose motorsport over football.
